Math help in Tampa, FL

06/18/2015
Parents always want to help their children as much as they can, but sometimes providing homework help can be difficult if you don’t know the subject. But this doesn’t mean that you can’t interact with your child's learning, especially at an earlier age. In this post, The Tutoring Center in Tampa will give you some ideas on how you can teach your kids without leaving the kitchen.

What’s on the list?

As you’re cooking your next family dinner, have your kids read you the recipe aloud and then the ingredients list on any packaged products that are included.  This is a great way for them to learn words and sound structures that they may not be presented with during their traditional learning path, and is also a good way to boost your child’s reasoning skills as they learn to read, process and later follow structured directions.

Mix it up!

When it comes to learning, kids love to get interactive. Encourage your kids to really mix the ingredients together, squashing them between their fingers (for appropriate dishes). While your kids are getting their hands dirty mixing ingredients in the recipe bowl, they are unknowingly learning about different foods, colors and textures.  As they combine and add ingredients, they learn how colors change when mixed, and how they can control the intensity of this color change by controlling how the ingredients are added.

Variety is the spice of life.

Recipes that are cold or frozen instead of cooked have just as many hidden lessons. Making popsicles or ice cream can help to teach your child about freezing temperatures and preparing for frozen liquids to expand.

Keep building on the skills

The more opportunities that your child has to touch, smell and interact with different foods, colors and textures, the more ways for them to learn about color combinations and how textures can change as extra ingredients are added to alter consistency.

These are skills that can have a great benefit for your child earlier in their education, and being able to be taught by a parent is an enjoyable experience for every child.  To complement these practical skills, our experts can provide reading, writing, and math help through one-to-one instruction or private tutoring in Tampa.
